How do middle-income households rent in high-cost cities?
Are you a renter between the ages of 25 and 64, have a household income between $58,000 and $199,000, and have lived in New York City since 2012? We are conducting a research study about how neighborhood changes and housing price influence people's decisions to move or stay in their current homes. We are looking for your input!
Participation in this study includes a 5-minute online screening survey and if selected, a 1-2 hour interview about the places you have lived and why you moved or did not move between 2012 and 2017.
Benefits: This study is not designed to benefit you directly, but you may benefit from the opportunity to reflect on how your residential history is related to changes in your neighborhood. You will have the opportunity to share your experiences of how housing cost and neighborhood changes impact where you lived and whether you moved. These experiences may inform future policies focused on middle-income renters in high-cost cities.
Risks: Participants may feel uncomfortable being asked about their personal history and income. Participation is voluntary and all disclosed information will remain confidential.
To participate in the study, please complete the screening survey.
Contact Rebecca Shakespeare at renterstudy@gmail.com or 617-444-9810 with any questions about the study.
Participants who are selected and complete interviews will receive $50 for their participation in this study.
This research is conducted under the direction of Dr. Mei-Po Kwan, Department of Geography and GIS, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with IRB number 18478. It is funded by NSF grant number 1757630.
